Route description

Monakhovo opens the walk with a view of Chivyrkuysky Gulf before the coastal journey continues through Katun and Kurbulik. When visiting is authorised, walking provides a sequence of individual shore encounters: woodland intervals alternate with bay approaches, while the settlements briefly introduce an inhabited shoreline before the forest returns. Sorozhya, Okunyovaya and Millionnaya offer different coastal settings. The following Krestovskaya section passes near Lake Krestovskoye. Pause to observe the shape of the shore and the meeting of trees with open water, using agreed stopping places. The final destination is Zmeinaya Bay and its thermal springs. Natural warmth beside a large cold lake gives the ending its character; using the baths is an optional, separately arranged visit. This version ends near the springs. Arrange your return to Monakhovo independently beforehand, with any water or island continuation under a separate plan.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - With caution With a dog - No data By bike - No With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data For walkers prepared for a sustained woodland and coastal stage. Prepared older children need an individual plan and adult supervision; arrange a shorter outing with small children separately in an authorised area. Stairs, beach sections and woodland trail exclude stroller and ordinary-bicycle use throughout this version. Confirm dog admission with the park; free roaming is prohibited. Continuous reception is unestablished. Present visiting needs an agreed group with state inspectors and separate confirmation that this particular trail admits visitors.

Nearby

Monakhovo provides the starting road and shore side. The park publishes information points and transport by application here, with current reception subject to agreement: the small-vessel base entered its winter closure on18September2026. Independently confirm prices, accommodation, food and individual opening arrangements. Misyurkeikha Bay lies on a branch from the main direction; its shoreline visit is outside this version. Goryachinsky Cape, Chivyrkuysky Gulf’s islands and the Ushkany Islands also need independent programmes and admission. Avoid adding them to this walking ending without preparation. The springs are a natural attraction rather than a required treatment. Confirm bath admission, visiting rules and payment separately; an ordinary coastal outing does not include a booked visit or guaranteed reception. Never catch resident snakes or trample surrounding vegetation.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
The park publishes intercity transport from Yuzhny Bus Station in Ulan-Ude to Ust-Barguzin. Confirm an operating departure and ticket for your date with the carrier. A direct regular onward service to the Monakhovo start is independently unconfirmed; the park advertises transport by application, subject to agreement. A regular service at the springs is unestablished. Decide on walking return or authorised water transport before setting out, considering current direction restrictions and the closure of Monakhovo’s small-vessel base.
By car
The main road approach passes through Ulan-Ude and Ust-Barguzin towards the national-park entrance. The park lists a turn towards the Wildlife Park checkpoint beyond Ust-Barguzin. Agree onward travel to Monakhovo on the permitted road, checking surface condition, the visiting regime and the inspector meeting place. A car does not reach this northern walking ending near the springs; prepare return independently. The small-vessel base closure establishes neither permission nor a prohibition for a particular vehicle space by itself.
Parking
The park lists Prichal vehicle parking in Monakhovo near the starting road side. Before arrival, confirm admission to this space, current vehicle-storage terms and the group meeting place. The small-vessel base stopped receiving guests on18September2026, and independent park visits are restricted; the existence of vehicle parking does not replace trip agreement. Reaching the springs requires an independently arranged return to Monakhovo.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceSand 13%, Unknown 87%.
Риски On14October2026, the published restriction on independent visits to Zabaykalsky National Park remains relevant. The park admits tourist groups only with its state inspectors; apply at least three days beforehand, with paid accompaniment. Separately confirm whether the Zmeinaya direction itself is open: the park explicitly recalls restrictions on this trail. General permission and accompaniment do not themselves lift its closure. Avoid planning an outing without confirmed admission. Woodland ascents and descents alternate with shore sections affected by water levels and waves. Near Okunyovaya, establish the wet section’s condition and a permitted crossing; an old description of an easy ford does not establish present conditions. A pedestrian bridge is mapped near Krestovskaya; check its condition before using it. Stairs and wooden surfaces become slippery in rain. Agree a separate safe section or an early ending if a connection is unconfirmed. Recent restrictions follow bear appearances, including near Katun and Kurbulik. Remain on the agreed route, leave no food behind and avoid approaching animals. Snakes may be present near the springs; observe from a distance and never catch them. Thermal baths do not suit everyone: follow staff instructions and personal contraindications, without an expected medical result. Keep washing agents out of the water. Confirm return and check-in arrangements. Equipped recreational camps are closed under the9September2026 announcement; avoid planning overnight use until the restriction is lifted. Remove rubbish or use authorised operating collection points.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 6 h 15 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
The precise duration of this independent one-day walking version is unestablished. Calculate the Monakhovo approach, settlement and bay stops, confirmed connections and agreed return after the springs. A longer programme with a water leg does not establish this card’s duration. Start only at an agreed daylight time, retaining weather and delay reserves. The ending lies on the northern shore, without an included walking return. Independently confirm any permitted accommodation; closed equipped camps are unsuitable as a fallback.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
The usual summer direction season is June to September with a usable trail and authorised admission. This seasonal guidance does not establish opening. On14October2026, announcements restrict this trail and independent park visits. Plan a new trip after individual admission confirmation and a suitable forecast. Winter access to the bay under other excursions does not establish an ice repeat of this walking version.
