Route description

The Ekhe-Bulnay approach from the Khoyto-Gol side begins among open fields. The mountains are still ahead, and the lower road offers a sense of the Tunka Basin’s spacious setting before entering woodland. Gradually, the broad approach gives way to a forest path, where choosing the right direction matters more than hurrying towards a distant summit. This version explores the lower approach only. It ends in the forest; mountain passes, upper lakes and crossings into neighbouring valleys belong to a separate journey. Prepared walkers who enjoy the gradual transition from settled foothills to a remote wooded slope will find that transition the main attraction. Arrange the return and collection near the lower roads beforehand.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
This is a lengthy independent outing requiring careful navigation into the forest. It is unsuitable for a children’s stroll or stroller. Cycling suitability, dog access over the whole approach and dependable reception are unconfirmed.

Nearby

Ekhe-Bulnaysky and Fram passes lie above the end of this approach and require separate mountain planning. The lakes and passes of Ara-Oshey are also outside this lower-road outing. Check the permitted direction and Tunka National Park rules before travelling. Trees or traces of older camps do not establish permission for a fire or overnight stay.

Getting there

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceImproved surface 15%, Unknown 85%.
Риски Field-road junctions and the transition into woodland require careful navigation. Continuous passage over the complete approach is unconfirmed at present; avoid attempting shortcuts down into river canyons. Water may lie well below the forest path, so a nearby valley on a map does not establish a convenient refill. After rain, reassess the ground and any water crossings.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 6 h 17 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Allow for a lengthy outing, an early start and a predetermined turn-around time. A reliable full duration is not established. This version provides neither a complete circuit nor a return over a neighbouring mountain pass: calculate the return journey, collection and remaining daylight separately. The schedule of a longer expedition through the upper valleys cannot be applied to this lower approach.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose snow-free conditions according to the present state of the forest path, ground and water crossings. Dry weather may improve the field roads without guaranteeing water farther into the forest. In autumn, allow for early darkness and falling temperatures. A regularly maintained or trodden winter path is unconfirmed.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода

Drinking water for the woodland section and return, with food reserves.
