Route description

This Ulan-Gol version runs out of the mountains. A mountain river accompanies the upper section before the route turns onto a wooded slope and gradually reaches the fields on the Khandagay-Ubur side. Its character comes from that change of space: the river valley gives way to foothill woodland, open ground and lower roads. Preparation needs to account for an important detail. The route is associated with an old burned slope where earlier walkers lost the path. Choose it as an independent mountain exit with the current passage checked and suitable local guidance, rather than expecting continuous clearance. Ulan-Golsky Pass and upper lakes are outside this version; reaching the upper start requires a separate mountain plan.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
This version is for prepared walkers able to navigate and assess present conditions. Unclear passage through the old burned area makes it unsuitable as an ordinary children’s walk, bicycle ride or stroller outing. Dependable reception throughout is unconfirmed.

Nearby

Khoyto-Gol belongs to the lower arrival area, but this version provides no village sightseeing circuit. Ulan-Golsky Pass, Ara-Oshey and upper lakes require other stages. Sacred places and camps mentioned in older accounts are not verified as current points on this particular line. Check the permitted direction with Tunka National Park before travelling.

What to expect

Places
Ulan-Gol River on the upper exit — The mountain river lies beside the upper section. Farther down, the route enters the wooded slope of another drainage basin; it does not follow the Ulan-Gol bank all the way towards the village.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 22 м.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски Finding a passable line across the wooded old burn is the main challenge. Parts of the historical route are unconfirmed as present paths, with possible fallen trees and diversions. Do not substitute the lower riverbed for the slope passage. Forest water may be inaccessible, and descending to the river may be difficult. Wet vegetation, rain and tiring descents call for spare time and stable footwear.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 3 h 6 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Treat this exit as a stage within a prepared mountain journey. A dependable full duration is not established: older walkers’ estimates describe different passages and conditions. Preserve daylight for navigation and collection below. Reaching the upper start, any currently permitted alternative and the onward journey to accommodation need separate planning.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Prepare for snow-free conditions using fresh information on fallen trees and permitted passage. Rain changes both the wooded slope and lower roads, while vegetation can remain wet for a long time. During dry weather, do not rely on an intermediate stream without checking. A maintained winter version of this exit is unconfirmed.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода

Water for the whole woodland section and reserve food.
A warm layer plus rain and wind protection.
An offline map of both drainage basins and the lower exit.
A headlamp, spare power and first-aid kit.
An agreed collection arrangement and communication suitable for a remote area.
