Route description

From the upper side of Svyatoy Nos Plateau, the route descends towards Glinka past the Wayside Cross. When passage is authorised, the peninsula unfolds in reverse order: an open mountain side gives way to rocky and woodland sections before the lower Barguzinsky Gulf approach. Visibility determines the upper stops; clear weather helps reveal the relationship between the mountain massif and Baikal’s shore. Pause near the cross on an agreed safe trail side. It is a recognised landmark and a destination for parish outings from Glinka; beyond it, the descent returns to woodland. Pay attention to footing and retain a measured pace even when the main effort seems to be behind you. This version ends near Glinka and omits the preceding climb from below. Reach the upper start through a separately prepared stage. Visiting Markova’s actual summit is outside the plan, while coastal walking and departure after the forest exit need independent arrangements. The route concludes a mountain day rather than providing a short ascent directly from the road.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - With caution With a dog - No data By bike - No With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data For well-prepared walkers able to descend confidently over stone and uneven wooded slopes. The main mountain direction is unsuitable for children under eleven; independently agree participation by prepared older children with accompanying staff. Cycling and stroller use are outside this complete version’s plan. Dog admission is independently unconfirmed, with free roaming prohibited in the park. Reliable reception throughout the descent is unestablished. Prepare the upper approach and currently permitted accompaniment beforehand.

Nearby

Markova is a separate summit in Svyatoy Nos’s upper terrain. It lies away from this precise start and is outside the included plan. An additional summit approach needs independent authorised preparation and time reserves; seeing the massif does not establish a summit visit. Glinka is associated with a former Evenki camp and later small fishing settlement. The park describes this locality’s history without promising an operating village or guaranteed services. Picnic places, the longer route’s entrance and separate rest locations lie along the neighbouring shore beyond the precise ending; confirm their access independently. Explore Barguzinsky Gulf and the Chivyrkuysky Isthmus through separate authorised outings after resting. Monakhovo, Chivyrkuysky Gulf and Zmeinaya Bay belong to independent directions whose services and walks are outside this mountain descent. Account for current park restrictions and recreational-camp closures in any continuation.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
The park publishes an intercity approach from Yuzhny Bus Station in Ulan-Ude to Ust-Barguzin. Check an operating departure and ticket for your date. The park offers onward delivery to the mountain direction’s lower side by application; a direct regular service to this upper start is unconfirmed. Reach the plateau through a separately agreed walking stage. Arrange Glinka collection and departure after the descent beforehand, confirming the precise permitted ending place.
By car
Prepare road travel from Ust-Barguzin through the Wildlife Park checkpoint and permitted isthmus road towards Glinka. Check current surface condition, the visiting regime and the accompanying group’s meeting place. This is the descent’s lower side rather than vehicle access to the plateau. The upper start requires an independent walking approach. This version ends near Glinka’s forest side; agree vehicle collection separately, without treating any neighbouring space as a boarding place.
Parking
Parking is unconfirmed. Ask where vehicle storage is authorised on the lower Glinka side and how to reach the beginning of the separately planned upper approach. A mapped forest exit, picnic place or road does not establish vehicle-storage permission. Agree chosen-space access and post-descent collection beforehand.

Риски On14October2026, independent visits to Zabaykalsky National Park are restricted. Tourist groups are admitted only with the park’s state inspectors; apply at least three days beforehand, with paid accompaniment. Separately confirm Trial Trail opening: the park explicitly recalls existing restrictions on this direction. General permission and accompaniment do not establish that the trail restriction has been lifted. Avoid planning an outing without confirmed admission. The rocky upper side between the plateau and the cross requires a prepared guide; the park provides for accompaniment on the descent too. Scree, dwarf-pine growth and rocky terrain hinder movement. Steep wooded sections with roots and uneven soil follow below. Rain, snow, ice, mist and wind change usability. Follow the currently authorised passage after agreeing all connections; avoid straight-slope shortcuts and summit additions without time reserves. Descending needs balance and remaining strength after the independent upper approach. Change the plan with accompanying staff in thunderstorms or poor visibility. Carry drinking water beforehand: a nearby channel does not establish a clean permanent source. Agree check-in messages and precise collection near the forest ending. Follow park bear and tick guidance, remain on the prepared direction and leave no food or rubbish behind. Equipped recreational camps are closed under the9September2026 announcement; exclude them from fallback overnight plans until the restriction is lifted.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 1 h 46 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
The exact duration of this separate one-day descent version is unestablished. Calculate the independent upper approach, agreed travel towards the cross, woodland descent and Glinka collection. A longer climb-and-return schedule does not establish this version’s duration. Retain sufficient daylight after climbing above: the lack of a return ascent does not make rocky movement fast. Change delayed plans with accompanying staff and independently confirm any permitted accommodation away from closed camps.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
The usual mountain-direction summer season is June to September with a passage free of dangerous snow and settled weather. Seasonal guidance does not establish present opening. On14October2026, announcements restrict Trial Trail and independent park visits. Plan new passage only after admission confirmation and upper-stone and woodland-descent checks. A winter outing needs separate preparation and is outside an ordinary repeat of this walking day.
