Route description

Between the Besed and the Drut, this journey gathers a series of small discoveries: Polesye’s village church, the memorials of Krasnopolye, older buildings in Cherikov and the postal station near Kristopolye. It starts in Gomel, crosses the Iput and continues through Vetka. Look for the excavator monument near the northern exit and, earlier on the way, the memorial to the district’s first tractor drivers. After the Besed crossing in Svetilovichi, this variant continues west without the short excursion up a northern side street. Beyond Babichi and Nisimkovichi, the road turns towards Polesye and Krasnopolye. Pause at the local memorials before continuing to the Mound of Glory and the crossing of the Sozh. Cherikov’s Nativity of the Virgin Church and former rectification plant reward a closer look: the town’s history survives in buildings that are easy to miss when travelling quickly. The road then crosses the Pronya and passes north of central Slavgorod. Kristopolye’s postal station precedes Dovsk and its Church of the Intercession, followed by Rogachev, the Dnieper and the Drut. The return towards Gomel runs through Uritskoye and Pribor. The finish is at the western entrance to the city, so returning to the starting area requires a separate urban journey.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceAsphalt 63%, Improved surface 17%, Dirt 2%, Unknown 16%.
Риски Long stretches of open road, wind and motor traffic create the main demands. Before leaving, check present cycling conditions on the M5, at the road junction in Dovsk and on the M10 return. A continuous permitted connection across the whole course has not been confirmed; plan any necessary alternatives in advance. Avoid restricted service branches at Babichi and near Pioner. A side footway in Uritskoye prohibits bicycles. Approach Cherikov’s historic buildings from public streets without entering service yards. On the eastern part of the trip, check access rules for resettlement territories. Permission is required where access controls apply; do not assume that every abandoned settlement can be entered. Follow local signs and restrictions.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 1 d 13 h
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Plan several days and book overnight stops before departure. Tie early stops to Vetka and the road towards Krasnopolye, then allow time for Cherikov. Rogachev offers another town stop on the return. Add museums as separate visits, and remember the final journey across Gomel from the western entrance.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Dry weather without ice or strong winds is preferable. Moderate temperatures make the open roads more comfortable. In hot conditions, plan water and settlement stops ahead; during wet periods, check bridge approaches.
