Route description

Chechersk Town Hall, Korma’s church ruins and the wooden church of Staraya Belitsa connect this journey around Gomel with the history of very different settlements. Leaving the eastern side of the city, the road crosses the Iput and passes through Vetka. Its roadside monuments recall local working life: the district’s first tractor operators and an excavator preserved as a landmark. Beyond the Sozh near Khalch, the journey continues through Raduga, Sherstin and Prisno. Pause at Chechersk Town Hall and allow time for its history and ethnography museum. An aircraft monument stands nearby, while the memorial to resettled villages lies on the way out towards the Chechora. Rural roads then lead through Otor and Korotki. Korma introduces the Kormyanka and the surviving walls of St Nicholas Church. View them from outside, noticing how the old church sits alongside the everyday life of the settlement. After Dovsk, turn towards Gadilovichi and Tursk. The former Senozhetsky estate park remains beside the road, although the palace has been lost. Gorodets brings the Dormition Church; beyond Buda-Koshelevo and Uvarovichi comes Staraya Belitsa, with its wooden St Nicholas Church and Baroque finials. It offers a natural final pause before returning to the edge of Gomel. Divide the journey into stages to give museums and churches the attention they deserve, with river crossings adding their own rhythm between the towns.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceAsphalt 43%, Improved surface 17%, Compacted dirt 6%, Unknown 31%.
Риски This long journey follows roads carrying motor traffic and requires a prepared cyclist. The M8, M5 and final approach to Gomel need particular attention: establish where cycling is currently permitted and how to use lawful connections between roads. Continuous permitted passage has not been confirmed. On the approaches to the M8, in Uvarovichi and near Azdelino, follow existing permitted roads and signs instead of cutting bends across verges or land away from the road. Stop clear of traffic near bridges and monuments. View Korma’s St Nicholas Church ruins from outside; access inside and the stability of the walls have not been confirmed.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 1 d 3 h
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Allow several days for a sightseeing journey. Distribute stops in Chechersk, Korma, Gorodets and Staraya Belitsa to match your pace, confirming accommodation and food ahead of time. Completing the journey as one long sporting day leaves little time for museums and requires different preparation. Include the separate transfer across Gomel after the finish.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose dry weather with ample daylight, generally from late spring to early autumn. In summer, carry extra water for exposed roads; in cooler months, allow for early dusk. Strong winds, persistent rain or ice are reasons to postpone the journey or shorten a stage.
