Route description

Ashu-Kashka-Suu rises into the northern side of the Terskey Ala-Too. The gorge is known as an approach to the It-Tish area, but this journey chooses a different objective: Kashka-Suu Pass and the southern syrts. Its start is already inside a mountain valley, so the expedition begins well before the pass slopes. At Kashka-Suu the change between the north and the inner Tian Shan becomes particularly clear. After crossing the main divide, the path continues towards Arabel’s high country, where watersheds and distant ranges define the landscape. It is a rewarding plan for a prepared group interested in moving between mountain regions. Self-sufficiency and an agreed syrt exit are essential; It-Tish summit, neighbouring lakes and longer horse programmes remain separate objectives.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No data With a dog - No data By bike - No data With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data No verified regular transport serves the mountain start or high southern end. The pass crossing needs preparation; child, dog and cycling suitability is unconfirmed. Strollers are unsuitable. Agree valley and divide communication with the leader beforehand.

Nearby

It-Tish is a separate summit above Ashu-Kashka-Suu, rather than a stop on this crossing. The lake cascade south of Kashka-Suu requires another verified branch and is not added automatically to this line. Allow time at Issyk-Kul before or after the mountain journey.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Travel to Issyk-Kul’s south-shore settlements is only the lower part of the approach. Reaching Ashu-Kashka-Suu needs a separate walk or arranged local transfer. No regular connection to this start or from the southern endpoint has been verified; plan the complete Arabel syrt exit in advance.
By car
Discuss the northern approach in the Djuuku–Ashu-Kashka-Suu gorge system with a local organiser according to road conditions. Collection cannot be arranged at the pass: a separate continuation is needed to an accessible road. Check high-country access rules, vehicle requirements and alternatives if crossings are damaged.
Parking
No confirmed long-stay vehicle storage serves this itinerary. Agree a lower base with a host and plan vehicle retrieval after leaving on the southern side. A camping place mentioned in an organised tour does not establish secure vehicle storage.

What to expect

Places
Ashu-Kashka-Suu Valley A mountain gorge and camping area below It-Tish.
Kashka-Suu Pass The main-divide crossing between the northern valley of the same name and Arabel high country.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 1080 м.
SurfaceDirt 70%, Unknown 30%.
Риски The main divide requires confident mountain travel. Snow, scree, mist and water on the approaches can change the planned day; check with a local leader. Horse programmes in the region do not establish a simple footpath for every group. The southern continuation is far from settlements, so alternative exits and weather reserve must be agreed before departure.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 8 h 48 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Treat this as a pass stage within a longer mountain journey. Plan northern and southern overnight stops and count the high-start approach and syrt exit separately. An organiser describes a four-day circuit through Ashu-Tor, Arabel and Kashka-Suu, but this line covers only part of a different plan; neither four days nor a brief single outing is automatically established.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Plan a high-mountain summer crossing after checking snow at Kashka-Suu. The region’s general trekking season does not guarantee a suitable day on this pass. Early trips, late snowfall or strong wind need flexibility; winter and shoulder-season travel require a separate plan.
