Route description

From the Kichi-Kyzyl-Suu River, the path crosses the western spur into neighbouring Djukuchak. On that side it follows the Jumatai stream valley, revealing a different arrangement of slopes and river approaches. The journey then continues up Djukuchak, beyond the places that usually anchor short visits from the lakeside villages. This link suits travellers building a Terskey trek from connected valley stages. Kichi-Kyzyl-Suu falls behind and Djukuchak becomes the journey’s new axis, with an onward approach towards the main range. The change of gorge and the movement deeper into the mountains are its defining features. A visit to the Djukuchak hot springs needs a separate plan: this upper variant does not establish a stop at the baths.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No data With a dog - No data By bike - No data With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data Both ends lie in mountain valleys and need separate access plans. Suitability for children, dogs and bicycles has not been verified; a stroller is unsuitable. Mobile coverage across the crossing is unknown.

Nearby

Djukuchak hot springs lie lower in the gorge and require a separate descent. Continuing towards the main range needs an independent snow and pass assessment. Arrange accommodation and luggage storage with your host before departure.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
No verified regular service has been found reaching these upper valley endpoints. Arrange arrival on the southern shore of Issyk-Kul, access through Kichi-Kyzyl-Suu and an onward exit from Djukuchak with your host. If continuing towards the main range, choose the future collection point for the whole trekking programme.
By car
Check road approaches and the permitted drop-off point in each valley with a local driver. The upper Djukuchak endpoint is not a confirmed road meeting point. Cross the spur on foot; road access to springs lower down does not establish access to the start of a later high-mountain stage.
Parking
Reliable information on long-term vehicle storage at the endpoints is unavailable. Arrange storage at a lower base and return to it after leaving Djukuchak or completing the longer trek.

What to expect

Places
Kichi-Kyzyl-Suu River The small red river in the valley between Chon-Kyzyl-Suu and Djukuchak.
Jumatai Stream The named tributary on the western side of the crossing, leading towards Djukuchak.
Djukuchak River The river of the neighbouring western gorge, followed by the upper part of this journey.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 1379 м.
SurfaceDirt 35%, Unknown 65%.
Риски The spur ascent and descent towards the Jumatai stream need navigation on mountain paths; wet slopes and riverside ground can complicate travel. The saddle has not been securely matched to the named Jumatai Pass: sources describe a neighbouring link with conflicting elevations. Check crossings and snow on the upper section before departure. Identify the intended saddle with someone familiar with the local crossings before departure. Do not choose a higher col merely because its name sounds similar. Allow for rising river levels after rain and give your host a return deadline. In poor visibility, wait in a safe place while retaining an option to return to a known valley.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 7 h 45 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
A preliminary allowance is one full walking day for a fit group, or a split stage with a camp as part of the wider trek. Published hours for a neighbouring horse programme do not define this walking variant. Add the Kichi-Kyzyl-Suu approach and onward travel through Djukuchak.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose mountain summer with the spur actually free of snow. A horse operator advertises the Jumatai connection from mid-June to early October, but this does not establish conditions throughout this walking line. Select dates using recent snow, river and upper-valley weather information.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Mountain walking footwear and trekking poles
Warm layer, windproof and waterproof clothing
Camping equipment if splitting the stage
Offline valley map, backup navigation and power
Drinking water, treatment and food reserve
First-aid kit and sun protection
