Route description

Leaving Jyrgalan, the path climbs towards Eki-Chat and enters Terim-Tor-Bulak Valley. The pass stage then links it with Turgen-Ak-Suu and the Boz-Uchuk side. A long valley descent follows the open upper country, returning to woodland and lower roads. The sequence of valleys is the journey’s appeal, something a single drive cannot reveal. The Boz-Uchuk lakes occupy a separate basin to the side and need an additional visit plan.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
A marshrutka reaches Jyrgalan, followed by a preplanned multi-day walk. Passes, cold nights and river crossings make this unsuitable for an ordinary family stroll. Check dogs, bicycles and reception separately.

Nearby

The Boz-Uchuk lakes are a separate side outing south of the direct route and need a new time allowance. Continuing the traverse towards Altyn-Arashan is another multi-day stage, rather than this valley descent.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Destination Jyrgalan lists marshrutka 331 from Karakol’s Ak-Tilek Market. Check current departures and that the vehicle continues to Jyrgalan. The walk finishes on the Boz-Uchuk Valley side: arrange pickup from the mountain end separately rather than expecting a bus at camp.
By car
Reach Jyrgalan from Karakol via Novovoznesenovka, Ak-Bulung and Zyndan. Pickup is then needed from Boz-Uchuk Valley. If leaving a car in Jyrgalan, arrange the return ride in advance; lower roads do not automatically link mountain endpoints.
Parking
Agree car storage with accommodation in Jyrgalan. Guarded parking at the mountain finish has not been confirmed. Choose a driver-reachable section of the valley road for pickup.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 1650 м.
SurfaceImproved surface 13%, Dirt 1%, Unknown 87%.
Риски Check the Turgen-Ak-Suu crossing before departure: the tourism organisation specifically warns about the river bridge. If no safe crossing is available, revise the plan with a local guide. The pass stage needs reserve energy; damp ground and cold Terim-Tor-Bulak nights require suitable camping equipment.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Time for the route 3 days
With stops | 3–4 days Separate the Jyrgalan approach, pass stage and Boz-Uchuk Valley descent. Add time separately for a lake side outing: the direct lower-valley route does not visit the lake basin.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose summer or early September after checking snow and water levels. Early summer can bring strong runoff. Autumn means shorter days and possible frost despite a warm forecast in Karakol.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Bring mountain footwear, poles and rain protection.
A tent, warm sleeping bag and mat are needed for the cold valley.
Plan water treatment, reserve food, an offline map and backup power; agree the river-crossing option before leaving.
