Route description

Keskenkiya links Jyrgalan with mountain valleys southeast of the village. Eki-Chat leads into pass country, where Jyrgalan, also called Ak-Kiya, and Keskenkiya provide distinct stops. The main loop returns to the village through other valley sections. This expanded version also includes a northern road approach to Jyrgalan, which should be planned separately from the mountain loop. It gives time to both passes and the village base when the river crossing and outing sequence have been agreed beforehand.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
A marshrutka reaches Jyrgalan, followed by a preplanned multi-day walk. Passes, cold nights and river crossings make this unsuitable for an ordinary family stroll. Check dogs, bicycles and reception separately.

Nearby

Boz-Uchuk and Ailampa lakes occupy other branches of the Jyrgalan area and require separate outings. A shared village base does not make them part of Keskenkiya.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Take marshrutka 331 from Karakol’s Ak-Tilek Market to Jyrgalan, checking current departures and the final stop. If using the northern approach separately, arrange a drop-off or pickup with a driver; a scheduled stop at its upper end is unverified.
By car
The local road reaches Jyrgalan from Karakol via Novovoznesenovka, Ak-Bulung and Zyndan. Agree the northern road section with a driver separately from the walking loop. Road access does not mean that vehicles can enter the pass valleys.
Parking
Arrange multi-night car storage with accommodation in Jyrgalan. A dedicated guarded parking area at the loop start has not been established. Do not treat the northern approach as an arbitrary car-storage point.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 1963 м.
SurfaceDirt 37%, Improved surface 10%, Asphalt 2%, Unknown 51%.
Риски The Tiup crossing is the key practical uncertainty. The local tourism organisation warns of dangerous snowmelt water; obtain a fresh answer about a safe crossing before departure. Passes can bring cold, wind and snow. Do not shorten the northern road approach by arbitrary slope crossings.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Time for the route 4–6 days
With stops | 5–7 days The local organisation allows four days for the main loop. Plan the northern road approach separately, adding time for a return or an agreed ride. Do not replace that allowance with a direct crossing of unfamiliar slopes.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose summer only after checking the river crossing. Early-season runoff can make the main plan unworkable. Later summer still changes after rain; autumn adds freezing conditions.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Bring mountain footwear, poles and weather protection.
Plan a tent, warm sleeping bag, reserve food and water treatment for several nights.
Carry an offline map, headlamp and backup power; agree the Tiup crossing and any required equipment with a guide.
