Route description

On Avachinsky Pass, the Camel stands out through two stone humps between larger volcanoes. This version starts on the Avachinsky ranger-station side, climbs to a viewpoint and continues around the eastern side of the rock formation. Its upper finish is near the stone humps, with the descent still to come. The changing outline of the Camel rewards pauses along the way; clear skies also reveal the slopes of Avachinsky and Koryaksky volcanoes. Choose weather that allows you to see the upper slope and descend comfortably before dark.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - With caution With a dog - With caution By bike - No With a stroller - No Mobile signal - Poor You need confidence on uneven mountain ground. The park advises against this outing for children under seven; supervise older children on rocks and snow. Keep dogs leashed and assess their ability to negotiate the upper circuit separately. Weak signal cannot support a guaranteed meeting.

Nearby

The Three Volcanoes base lies on the pass side and can serve as an external landmark; visiting its premises is not included. The actual Avachinsky Pass saddle is farther north. Ascents of Avachinsky and Koryaksky volcanoes are separate outings. The park identifies a freely accessible zone on Avachinsky Pass; check its current boundaries and conditions for the chosen upper branch. Observe wildlife from a distance without feeding it.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
A booked transfer from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky can take you to the Avachinsky base camp: Kamchatintour publishes a meeting at the Avacha Hotel. Reserve seats and the return beforehand. Regular services directly to the ranger station are unconfirmed; independent walkers should arrange both journeys and any remaining approach from the drop-off.
By car
The vehicle approach towards Avachinsky Pass follows the unpaved Dry River valley side. Rain and seasonal changes in the channel affect conditions; check passability with your receiving party beforehand. Park rules limit driving to the parking beside the Kamchatintour base, followed by walking on the established route.
Parking
The park identifies parking beside the Kamchatintour base as the limit for permitted driving. Confirm its exact location, charges and availability before travelling. Leave vehicles below rather than farther up the pass or by the rocky finish; the outing requires a descent to the lower side.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски The ascent can cross snow, with rocky slopes around the upper finish. Turn back earlier if the ground freezes or visibility deteriorates. The eastern rocky summit requires greater preparation: this outing does not establish an ascent to its exact top. Follow the agreed circuit and retain energy for the descent.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 54 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Plan a day walk with a separate return to the ranger station. Complete outing duration is unconfirmed. Assess ascent conditions first, then allow time for the viewpoint and upper circuit. The entire return descent remains after the finish; set a turnaround time according to weather and daylight reserve.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
The summer route is published for June–October, subject to opening and suitable weather. Snow and wind can change access to the upper circuit even within that period. Check the current status before travelling; winter excursions have separate conditions and do not establish access to this walking version.
