Route description

This mountain passage links two different Central Caucasus landscapes: upper Kharesidon on the Digoria side and Karasu valley towards Ushtulu. The Ossetian side passes Chifandzar, a peat wetland occupying an earlier lake basin. Beyond the mountain divide, attention shifts to Karasu and the small Tatapa Stauat lake beside the valley passage. The start is already far above the road valley, so reaching it needs its own preparation. The exact ridge crossing and river passages still require checking; plan with a guide who knows both sides. Ushtulu is the direction of exit here, rather than a promise of a ready-made easy day.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 610 м.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски The exact ridge passage is unestablished; avoid assigning it the name or sporting grade of a nearby saddle. River passages and water levels are particularly important on the Karasu side, and proximity to the lake does not establish safe shore access. Agree the complete journey with protected-area administrations and check border requirements before departure. Select overnight places only after agreement; without a confirmed connection between the valleys, do not begin this through version.
