Route description

Terskol valley leads from the village to a waterfall flowing over unusual basalt columns. At the lower mosque-side approach, take the right branch after the park entrance; the neighbouring left road leads to a different cascade. The path then follows the mountain valley through woodland sections and open meadows. The main stop differs from Maiden Braids in the rock itself: water falls over a columnar wall associated with Elbrus volcanic history. A water crossing precedes the final climb. Floods change its condition, so familiarity with the path does not replace checking the crossing. Return down the same valley, leaving the glacier area outside an ordinary waterfall outing.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски The essential check is the final crossing: the bridge is periodically washed away. Do not ford a strong stream to complete the walk. Wet rock and steep ground require care on the last climb; do not continue towards the glacier in poor visibility. Confirm recent conditions before departure.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Time for the route 3.5–4.5 h outward and return
With stops | 5–6 h The selected ascent ends at the waterfall, while the practical day plan includes returning down the same valley to Terskol. The stopping allowance agrees with the publisher’s general five-to-six-hour guidance, rather than a measured party time. If the crossing is damaged, safe completion and its duration are unestablished; turn back before the water.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Summer meltwater usually brings a fuller flow, but stronger water makes the bridge check more important. Ordinary walking requires a snow-free path and a settled forecast. Watch for early autumn ice; a winter waterfall appearance does not establish a safe winter approach.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Grippy mountain footwear and familiar poles.
Water, food, rain protection and a warm layer for the valley return.
A headlamp, a map of both lower branches and confirmation of the park visit payment.
