Route description

This multi-day kayak outing combines two independent excursions in the Ladoga skerries. One follows Timonsaari’s eastern shore towards Nurmilahti Bay. The other begins in Kumolanlahti beside the IYOKI shore base, travels among neighbouring islands and returns to that bay. Arrange delivery, permitted pauses and recovery for each part separately. The skerries reward exploration from a kayak’s low seat: island shapes change around bends, placing the shores close to the water journey. Oraytsaari, Kausatsalmi Strait and small southern islands feature beside the second outing. Shore passages near Kelosaari and Riiskansaari are particularly close; maintain safe clearance and assess the water on site. The Timonsaari outing offers a different experience, following an island shore into Nurmilahti. Enjoying these places calmly requires appropriate weather, kayak handling skills and an agreed plan. Arrange national-park visitation and the necessary watercraft permissions beforehand, checking permitted zones. Landings, overnight stays and travel between the two outings require independent arrangements.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - With caution By bike - No With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data This multi-day combination of two water outings needs individual arrangements for each part. Land transport can serve IYOKI, but island-start delivery and recovery are not automatically arranged. It is not recommended as an ordinary children’s outing; kayaking and water-rescue skills are needed. Dogs require national-park approval, carrier agreement and safe carriage. Cycling and a stroller are unsuitable. Uninterrupted reception is unestablished.

Nearby

IYOKI offers hire and tent accommodation through separate booking. Base services, equipment transfers and overnight stays are not automatically included. Longer journeys to Kilpola, Koyonsaari, Putsaari, the Kurkiniemi lighthouse and Yesusaret belong to other outings. Ladoga seals may be encountered but are not guaranteed; observe without pursuit. Inland waterfalls, summits and island walking paths are not visits included in this water version.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
IYOKI identifies land arrival through Yakkima Railway Station or Lahdenpohja, followed by separate transport to the shore base. Confirm operating trains, buses and water-equipment carriage before travelling. This helps organise the Kumolanlahti outing but does not deliver you automatically to the independent Timonsaari beginning. Arrange water delivery and recovery for each part beforehand; a regular passenger service serving all water locations is unconfirmed.
By car
The operator confirms IYOKI road arrival from the A 121 through the Lumivaara area or Lahdenpohja and Harvia. The base applies conditions to final arrival, timing and unloading. Vehicles cannot enter the tent area or drive directly to the water. The Timonsaari beginning needs separate water arrangements. Agree hire-kayak transport with the operator; carrying it on your own vehicle cannot be assumed.
Parking
IYOKI customer parking is confirmed under separate service conditions. Vehicles remain outside the tent area; agree the exact space, availability and access for visitors without accommodation beforehand. This serves Kumolanlahti arrival. Parking directly at the independent island beginning is unconfirmed. A shore or launching place does not imply a permitted vehicle space.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски Ladoga wind and waves can prevent a previously planned passage. Avoid launching in unsuitable weather or attempting to complete the programme regardless of conditions. Everyone needs a lifejacket and skills in handling, mutual assistance and capsize response. Assess depth and obstacle clearance near rocky shores, narrow passages and piers. Avoid approaching wildlife for photographs. National-park zoning and rules govern landing, resting, camping and fire. Each part requires its own exit plan; tell a responsible person the agreed journey and return time.

How much time to allow

Расчётное время в пути 4 h 33 min

Time for the route | Unestablished With stops | Unestablished A day-by-day plan is not established. This combines two independent water outings: first arrange each beginning, recovery and permitted pauses. Wind, waves, crew experience and equipment delivery affect timing. Overnight locations are unassigned; agree them under current park rules when choosing a multi-day trip. Allow weather reserves and the possibility of cancelling a water outing.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Plan kayaking during open-water conditions with suitable weather. A calendar date does not establish safety. Check wind forecasts, waves, water temperature and current restrictions before travelling and launching. The more exposed island side needs particular assessment. This version does not imply winter travel across ice.
