Route description

This walk connects Zermatt’s streets with the walking approaches to Schweifinen. From the northern departure reach Alte Gasse, take paths above the village and meet Triftbach. Different approaches return to familiar places before the itinerary finishes at Schälpmattgasse in southern Zermatt. It is a programme of ordinary walking paths with repeated branches. The rock sections of the via ferrata require separate preparation and a different plan.

Nearby

Schweifinen has independent climbing sections A, B and C. The official C description includes vertical walls, a wire-rope ladder and an exposed traverse, requiring different preparation from these walking approaches. Choose a section after consulting a local guide. Higher walks towards Edelweiss and Trift are also additional outings whose access needs checking.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Reach Zermatt by train via Täsch. Add the walk from the station to the northern departure, then plan a station return from the southern Schälpmattgasse finish. The complete Schweifinen climbing-route instructions cannot replace this plan: its departure, duration and requirements differ.
By car
Use Täsch for vehicle arrival and transfer to the Zermatt train. Reach the northern departure and leave the southern endpoint on foot. Vehicle drop-offs at individual mountain approaches are not established. Allow station and village connections in addition to the walking programme.
Parking
Matterhorn Terminal Täsch provides parking for the train connection. Check tariffs and permitted duration. If adding a separate guided via ferrata, extend the parking allowance beforehand and reconsider the return train. Parking at the rock-route entrances is not established.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 570 м.
SurfacePaving stones 12%, Dirt 6%, Unknown 82%.
Риски Mountain approaches need secure footing and trail footwear, particularly on wet earth and stones. Follow the planned passage carefully through the repeated branches. Closed side paths are outside the programme. Schweifinen’s cable sections require appropriate equipment and sufficient experience, with a guide when needed.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 2 h 27 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Allow an estimated 2–3 hours for all selected walking approaches and returns. Add the station connections at both ends. Via ferrata rock sections are excluded from this allowance. Adding them needs a separate calculation with a guide and adequate margin before the evening train.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose dry, snow-free paths and settled weather. Wet rock, snow and ice complicate the approaches above the village. Check opening and access for the climbing sections separately; reaching the area does not establish access to the via ferrata. Avoid exposed rock extensions during thunderstorms.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Walking footwear with dependable grip
Water and a snack
Rain and sun protection
Warm layer
