Route description

Triftenwaeng is a short mountain passage above Zermatt, suited to a planned outing in the Trift area. It starts already on the hillside, away from the railway station, and follows walking paths towards the upper valley. The connection itself invites a measured pace and time in the high surroundings without rushing towards a distant summit. Trift mountain inn needs a separate approach near the end; the selected walk does not reach it.

Nearby

The botanical path to Trift is another route and is marked closed at this check. Verify time and access before adding these extensions.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Start with rail travel to Zermatt via Täsch. Reaching Triftenwaeng requires a separate mountain approach using paths open on the day. The official botanical route to Trift is marked closed at this check and cannot be assumed to provide access. Choose the final train only after calculating the complete village descent.
By car
Leave the car at Täsch and continue by train to Zermatt. Walk to the departure using an authorised approach planned beforehand. Vehicle drop-off at the path is not established. A short upper walk still requires a complete valley arrival and return plan.
Parking
Matterhorn Terminal Täsch provides parking for the rail connection. Allow enough time for the lower approach, selected passage and descent, or the full mountain programme if staying overnight. Check the current tariff. Parking directly at Triftenwaeng is not established.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 166 м.
SurfaceDirt / grass 15%, Unknown 85%.
Риски This is a mountain walking path with earthen sections requiring secure footing on wet ground or snow. Its hillside departure means the short upper passage does not remove the demands of reaching it. Check permitted connections and respect closures rather than attempting unprepared slopes. Change the day plan in fog or early snowfall.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 51 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Allow an estimated 45–75 minutes for the selected passage with brief pauses. The Zermatt approach, connection to Trift mountain inn and return are additional. The complete day depends on the authorised links chosen. Establish those first, then set departure and turnaround times.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Use a snow-free path in settled weather, generally during the summer or early-autumn mountain season. Spring snow remains and autumn ice can affect this short passage. Check Triftenwaeng and every approach separately; a neighbouring route’s status cannot establish access.
