Route description

The high junction east of Starorobociański leads towards the summit through Gaborowa Przełęcz. After a dip in the ridge, the path climbs again towards Starorobociański Wierch, known in Slovakia as Klin. The border crest holds your attention throughout: Polish valleys lie on one side, while the Slovak Western Tatras open on the other. At the summit, pause to identify the surrounding ridges. This section first requires an ascent from the valley, and a complete descent still awaits after reaching the top.

Route suitability

Without a car - Hard With children - With caution With a dog - No By bike - No With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data Public transport helps only with the lower valley; the mountain start needs a long walking approach. Children need high mountain preparation and substantial stamina. Dogs are prohibited on the Polish mountain section and cycling is not permitted. Coverage is unconfirmed.

Nearby

Gaborowa is used differently for neighbouring saddles. The saddle crossed towards the summit here is Gaborowa Przełęcz, while the eastern junction belongs to the Gaborowa Przełęcz Wyżnia direction above Liliowy Karb. Błyszcz, Bystra and a descent into Gáborova dolina are separate objectives requiring checks on trails and both countries’ rules.

Difficult sections and safety

Elevation gain
Strong wind, thunderstorms and poor visibility are hazardous on the ridge, with steep slopes beside the path. Follow the markers and avoid scree shortcuts. Hard snow and ice change the requirements of this summer ascent; TPN’s October bulletin already reports them. Choose a lower outing if your equipment or skills are insufficient.

How much time to allow

The mapped red-trail entry gives roughly forty minutes from the eastern junction to Starorobociański and twenty-five minutes downhill. Allow around an hour uphill with pauses. Approaching through Chochołowska and returning needs a full mountain day, roughly nine to eleven hours depending on your lower trail choices; this short section does not replace that calculation.

Best time to go

Stable, snow-free summer conditions with clear visibility and light wind are preferable. Check snow and ice before an early-autumn outing. Slovak approaches have their own seasonal rules; winter visits cannot be planned from summer times or photographs.

What to bring

Mountain footwear for stones and loose ground.
Water and food for the entire ascent and return.
Windproof and waterproof clothing with a warm layer.
Offline map, torch, phone and backup power.
For snow or ice, use the equipment and skills recommended by TPN; without them, avoid the high ridge.
