Route description

Brèche de Roland is a passage cut into an immense border wall. From the Sarradets refuge area, the route climbs to the recognisable gap, then continues on the Spanish side toward Fausse Brèche and Taillon. The summit becomes a distinct objective after the Brèche, changing the scale of the surrounding mountain country. This version ends back at Brèche de Roland; the refuge and road still require a further descent. In dry summer conditions it is an absorbing mountain ascent, demanding more attention than a walk only to the hut.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 566 м.
SurfaceDirt / grass 83%, Unknown 17%.
Риски Snow, wet stones and the scree route toward Taillon require confident movement. When snow-covered, a normal summer kit may be inadequate: ask the refuge or a guide about conditions and mountain equipment. Returning to the Brèche does not complete the entire exit from the mountains.
