Route description

From the upper Sámara-path junction, the route enters open Llanos de Chahorra volcanic country. Vegetation is sparse, while fine volcanic material covers older lava. Montaña de la Cruz de Tea appears as a neighbouring cone in the landscape; its summit is unnecessary for this selected walk. The main named stop is the exterior lava scarps around Cuevas Negras, also known as the Chahorra caves. They help reveal where lava left underground spaces with a distinctive natural environment. Entrances are closed: observe the setting from the permitted path without a cave tour. The selected direction ends at the PNT 9 junction. Both ends lie within the walking network, so independently plan roadside arrival, approaches and return. This is a distinct Teide volcanic outing; the identically named Cuevas Negras in Teno belong to a different setting.
