Route description

The descent begins at the actual upper Pico Viejo Viewpoint. Teide’s volcanic world opens ahead: dark lava, paler ground at Degollada de Chahorra and the southern rim of a large crater. The change between solidified volcanic forms is part of the appeal; observe them from the permitted path. Lower down, the route follows the exterior of Narices del Teide, an eruptive alignment associated with the 1798 eruption. The roadside viewpoint gives the volcanic landscape another perspective. The upper and lower viewing areas offer two distinct pauses for observation. This is a demanding mountain day. Independently confirm the order and safe permitted link on one continuation below Pico Viejo. Teide and Pico Viejo summits are outside this selected descent. PNT 9 needs its own current reservation, including for downhill travel.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No data By bike - No With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data This long high mountain descent over difficult volcanic ground needs experience and reserve energy. Resolve the uncertain continuation and recovery from a different roadside ending first. This version is unsuitable for an ordinary children’s walk, bicycle or stroller; dog conditions and reception are unestablished.

Nearby

Teide summit needs separate Telesforo Bravo access. Pico Viejo summit, Cuevas Negras caves and a Chafarí continuation are independent programmes. This version follows exterior paths and includes no crater-interior entry.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
TITSA publishes route 342 to the lower Teide Cable Car roadside. Arrange a current cable-car ascent ticket and the permitted walking approach to the upper beginning separately. A cable-car ticket does not replace PNT 9 authorisation. A bus at the final Narices del Teide Viewpoint is unconfirmed; agree collection or recovery before beginning the descent.
By car
The roadside ending is at Narices del Teide Viewpoint on TF-38, an independently arranged collection point after the descent. The upper beginning is not accessible by car: plan cable-car arrival or a separate permitted walking approach beforehand. Check both mountain roads and recovery of the vehicle.
Parking
Mirador Narices del Teide Car Park is a confirmed surface area by the lower ending. Check current restrictions and vacancy. It does not provide parking at the upper beginning; agree downhill collection and recovery of a vehicle left below separately.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски Upper dark lava is difficult underfoot, and the long descent is tiring even in good weather. Confirm the uncertain continuation first and avoid slope shortcuts. Account for altitude, wind, fog, cold, snow and ice. Observe reservation conditions and closures; cable-car operation is not a guaranteed fallback exit. Bring drinking water.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 3 h 7 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Time for the route | Unestablished With stops | Unestablished The park publishes around 8 hours for the ordinary PNT 9 descent. This expanded version requires confirmation of a continuation and its walking order, so that reference is not its verified full time. Plan a full mountain day after agreeing the permitted connection, upper arrival and TF-38 collection.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose an open path, settled weather, clear visibility and little wind. Winter snow and ice can restrict high mountain access; cold is possible in other seasons too. Check reservation conditions, weather closures and cable-car operation beforehand. Warm lower roads do not mean mild conditions above.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Mountain footwear, warm layers, windproofs and waterproofs.
Drinking water, food, hat and sun protection.
Headlamp, thermal blanket, first-aid kit, phone and power reserve.
