Route description

Beginning on Listvyanka’s wooded side, this passage reaches Lake Baikal and heads north through Bolshiye Koty, Devil’s Bridge and Malaya Kadilnaya valley. The coast changes repeatedly: wooded slopes give way to stony waterside passages, while small valleys provide pauses between headlands. Beyond Bolshoye Goloustnoye, the walk continues through the village’s northern side towards the coast on the Ushkany side. It does not return to Listvyanka. On 12 October 2026, reopening of the Great Baikal Trail after its 4 September closure because of bear activity is unconfirmed. Plan the outing after direct park confirmation of admission. The end of the fire season on 1 October does not itself remove the separate wildlife restriction; agree the northern continuation beyond Goloustnoye as well.

Route at a glance

Главное за минуту
Once access is authorised, discover Baikal through a long coastal journey: see the water from wooded slopes, pass memorials to people who studied the lake and walk through named Malaya Kadilnaya valley. Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
For prepared long-distance hikers following reopening and permission. Narrow slopes, loose rock and overnight stays require independent experience. Reception is intermittent; ask the park about taking a dog.

Nearby

Skriper viewpoint, Chapel Cave, Dry Lake and Sacred Mountain need additional approaches; their visits are excluded from this passage. Establish admission to St Nicholas Church in Goloustnoye separately. Arrange accommodation and check museum opening in Bolshiye Koty independently.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
The park confirms public access from Irkutsk to Listvyanka and separate transport from Bolshoye Goloustnoye. Select current services for your dates; reaching the wooded departure requires an approach from Listvyanka’s drop-off. The northern ending lies beyond Goloustnoye, so include a village return approach or separate collection. Seasonal boats are not a year-round emergency exit.
By car
Reach Listvyanka by the Baikal road and Bolshoye Goloustnoye by the Goloustnoye road. These are separate road approaches. Agree departure-side drop-off and collection beyond the northern ending; continuous vehicle access along the coastal trail is unconfirmed.
Parking
Parking is unconfirmed. Arrange authorised multi-day vehicle storage in Listvyanka beforehand. Return from the northern Goloustnoye side to your car needs separate arrangements.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 2248 м.
SurfaceDirt 5%, Asphalt 5%, Improved surface 1%, Unknown 88%.
Риски Devil’s Bridge and crumbling slopes require care; ask the park about former upper passages and wooden stairways. Storm waves can block stony shoreline alternatives. Rockfall is possible in Malaya Kadilnaya: avoid lingering beneath unstable slopes. The current bear-related restriction cannot be bypassed by choosing a neighbouring trail.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 20 h 11 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
A day-by-day plan is not established. This is a multi-day passage; its complete duration with the northern continuation is unconfirmed. After reopening, agree daily stages, authorised overnight places and final transport with the park; the published three-day Goloustnoye plan excludes this continuation.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
After confirmed reopening, choose snow-free weather without storms or heavy rain. Summer makes authorised tent stays easier; autumn needs allowance for cold and short daylight. Winter ice on exposed slopes makes the coastal passage particularly dangerous. Ordinary seasonal advice does not establish current admission.
