Route description

Talyany to Tory connects the northern forest side of the Sayan foothills with the Irkut valley. The ride begins beside Toysuk River in Talyany. After the first village roads, it heads west along the forest road near Greater Zhidoy River, also known locally as Bolshoy Zadoy. Town rhythm soon gives way to a sustained ascent, where conserving energy and choosing a careful line among stones matter more than speed. The forest journey changes direction at the watershed. Its southern continuation gradually reaches Shardzhelga River, whose crossings need independent checks, particularly after rain. Changing slopes and river valleys make this a complete mountain journey, although some places are better walked with the bicycle. Forest connections eventually yield to the village side of Khongodory and Dalakhay. Before Tory, the route crosses the Irkut on a road bridge and finishes beside Tunki Road. This version suits riders wanting to travel between two distinct valley sides, with independent preparation and spare time. Before setting out, confirm the southern forest connections and permitted rest places with the national park, arrange the required admission and a return from Tory. Older accounts of fast descents and good weather do not establish present road conditions.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No data By bike - Partially With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data For prepared groups experienced with mountain dirt roads, dismounting and independent returns. The complete crossing is unsuitable for small children or a stroller. Walk the bicycle through stony or damaged places; continuous riding is unconfirmed. Full-route suitability with a dog is unestablished, while the national park requires a lead. Reliable reception on the forest watershed is unconfirmed.

Nearby

Orengol is mapped as a named camping place beside the forest continuation; present entry, accommodation and service need independent confirmation. Greater Khodarey and Shulun belong to the wider river network, but their independent approaches are outside this outing. Older bicycle accounts mention hunting and geological bases, equipped rests and shops; those places’ current conditions are unestablished. Arshan, Slyudyanka, Chersky Peak and Heart Lake are separate continuations and outings. This crossing ends in Tory beside Tunki Road. The national park provides permissions through its official service and imposes separate protected-zone restrictions; establish access for the specific natural road and use designated overnight places. Older accounts of drinking from a stream do not establish present water quality.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
A current public-transport plan to Talyany’s forest departure and onward from Tory is unestablished. Arrange independent arrival with bicycle carriage and a return from the southern side beforehand. Historical outings used a drop-off beside the Toysuk bridge approach, which does not establish a current service. If meeting transport in Tory, confirm a suitable village-side collection point separately. Accounts continuing to Slyudyanka concern a longer outing and do not determine this version’s return.
By car
Arrange permitted village-road drop-off near the Toysuk departure in Talyany, keeping the bridge and road clear. Check access, road conditions and bicycle carriage beforehand. Meet a car in Tory at the end, beside the exit to Tunki Road; choose the actual collection area separately, off the carriageway. Car support through the forest crossing is unconfirmed. In the national park, motor vehicles use only public roads and designated places.
Parking
Parking is unconfirmed. Establish leaving arrangements in Talyany and on the southern Tory side before travelling. An empty verge, forest rest place or shop-side space does not establish permission to leave a car during the crossing. Keep bridge approaches, service entrances and carriageways clear. With separate arrival and collection, agree who will retrieve the car and when.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 2171 м.
SurfaceDirt 88%, Unknown 12%.
Риски Control speed on stony ascents and descents and keep brakes in good condition. Dismount on wet ground, damaged road or a connection beyond your ability. The earlier Shardzhelga crossing has no confirmed bridge structure. Farther down the same river, a vehicle ford and a separate pedestrian bridge are mapped: a car crossing does not establish safe bicycle passage. Inspect the bridge and permitted approach; return or use a separately established permitted alternative if high water or an unreliable passage prevents continuation. Allow for motor traffic and present restrictions on the road bridges over Toysuk and the Irkut. Confirm access along the selected southern forest connections with the national park. Use permitted paths, do not bypass barriers or occupy service properties. Markings and present passage throughout are unconfirmed.

How much time to allow

Расчётное время в пути 10 h 10 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
A day-by-day plan for the multi-day crossing is not established. Its complete duration is also unestablished: leave time for ascent, dismounting, inspecting crossings and bicycle repairs. Agree on permitted overnight places, fallback exits and collection in Tory before departure. The mapped Orengol camping place does not establish serviced accommodation. Arrange national-park admission for the southern portion, checking current conditions and the appropriate permission category through its official service. Register the mountain journey plan with the emergency service according to park rules.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose snow-free, steadily dry conditions, checking the watershed and river valleys separately. Prolonged rain can make crossings and stony descents unsuitable. Account for spring high water and late-autumn snow beforehand, and retain spare daylight during the crossing. Winter bicycle passage is unestablished. Fire restrictions can change southern forest admission.
