Route description

This long ski passage follows Lake Baikal’s frozen surface from the Listvyanka side to mainland MRS. It travels over the lake alongside the western coast and finishes on the ferry-complex side. Maly Kadilny and Krest capes serve as shore-side landmarks opposite the ice passage; climbing them or visiting onshore attractions is excluded. The journey does not continue to Olkhon or Khuzhir. A prepared ski trail and a currently safe ice passage are unconfirmed. On 12 October 2026, admission for the new ice season is unestablished. Plan only with experienced accompaniment after checking permissions, actual ice conditions and every shore exit; historical passage does not establish winter accessibility.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No By bike - No With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data For experienced ski tourists with ice accompaniment, agreed exits and a fallback plan. Recheck current admission and ice conditions. Negative answers for children, dogs and other modes describe suitability for this particular long ski expedition.

Nearby

Olkhon, Khuzhir, Ogoy Island and Burkhan Cape belong to other directions and are excluded. Skriper, Sagan-Zaba rock carvings and onshore western-coast trails need separate agreed approaches. MRS–Olkhon ferry operation establishes neither safe ice nor a need to cross the strait.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
The park confirms lower public access from Irkutsk to Listvyanka; reaching the authorised ice departure requires an independently checked approach from drop-off. Exact public departure after the MRS-side ending is unconfirmed. Agree final collection and fallback lake exits before the expedition.
By car
Listvyanka has lower road access by the Baikal road. Establish authorised mainland-MRS collection near the ending separately. This ski plan establishes neither driving onto ice nor an official equipped ice crossing.
Parking
Parking is unconfirmed. Agree Listvyanka vehicle storage for the full planned absence; return from MRS to departure needs separate arrangements. The ice surface is not a parking place.

What to expect

Places
Lake Baikal ice expanse the lake itself traversed by the long ski passage; establish ice-surface conditions afresh each season.
Maly Kadilny Cape the coastal landmark opposite the ice passage, without an independent cape ascent.
Krest Cape the coastal landmark of the later mainland-MRS approach, observed from the lake without promised cape landing.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 204 м.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски Cracks, open water in fractures, pressure ridges, wind and uneven ice can invalidate any historical direction. In March 2026, the emergency service reported unstable sections near Listvyanka, Kadilny and Goloustnoye, and around Buguldeyka. These observations illustrate changing ice and do not describe current conditions. Do not improvise a fracture detour without your accompanying specialist’s decision and a confirmed safe plan.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 1 d 11 h
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
A day-by-day plan is not established. This is a multi-day ski passage with unconfirmed complete duration. Agree daily sections, authorised overnight places, fallback shore exits and transport support with your accompanying specialist. Summer boat schedules and standard Khuzhir-scheme durations are excluded.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Only after ice formation and examination, confirmed admission and accompaniment. The park’s longer-direction scheme mentions February and March, but those months do not guarantee this passage’s safe ice: open-water fractures were reported even in March 2026. October departure and the ice-breakup period are unconfirmed.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Expedition ski equipment and an agreed repair kit
Warm layers, spare gloves and wind protection
Overnight equipment for the approved plan
Water, food and cooking provisions
Ice-rescue equipment specified by your accompanying specialist
Offline maps, navigation, backup communications and spare power
