Route description

Zarechye remains below as the route leaves the village road for the winter interior of the Morskoy Range. The journey changes from Baikal’s inhabited side to a wooded ridge. Approaching Davydov Peak calls for patience, coordinated group work and a willingness to negotiate dwarf pine. This is a ski expedition over natural ground, where a groomed ski trail or convenient passage throughout cannot be expected. The ridge includes a summit with a triangulation marker before the journey towards Davydov continues. Open places offer views of Baikal and neighbouring spurs when conditions allow. Davydov itself has a stony summit and surrounding mountain space; an especially broad lake panorama from its highest point is unestablished. Observe from ground level without climbing old surveying structures. The mountain section includes the Davydov outing and a return descent. This version finishes in woodland on the side of the former first camp; prepare an independent onward return to Zarechye. The lakeside overnight stop and subsequent departure described by earlier participants are outside this ending.

Route at a glance

Главное за минуту
For the winter Morskoy Range approached from Zarechye: dense dwarf pine, a wooded ridge and the outing towards Davydov Peak. It suits an experienced ski group interested in independent taiga travel and unhurried stops at real mountain landmarks. Seek Baikal views from suitable open ground while keeping the ridge as the expedition’s main purpose.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No data By bike - No With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data For a prepared group with winter ski expedition experience, route finding through dwarf pine and independent camping skills. Participants need confidence on uneven slopes, equipment repair procedures and the ability to adapt to the group’s condition. The complete version is unsuitable for learning to ski. Dog admission is independently unestablished, as are winter supplies, reliable reception and assistance on each section.

Nearby

Zarechye stands near the mouth-side of Big Dry River and can serve as a separately agreed road base. The precise expedition ending is higher in the forest: prepare onward village return, shore access and a departure place independently. A lakeside night mentioned in an old account does not establish a ready service or a required part of this version. White Stone, hot water near the lakeside settlements and Kolok Lake belong to independent outings. Their inclusion in this mountain journey is unconfirmed. A different approach along Big Dry River Valley also does not replace this ridge route. Historical camp names describe participants’ experiences rather than operating huts, fuel stocks, clean water or current reception. Arrange delivery and check-in messages for your own dates.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Regular public transport to the precise Zarechye-side start and from the woodland ending is unconfirmed. Agree village delivery and an independent safe exit after the descent. A chartered bus used for an earlier expedition does not establish a current scheduled service. Avoid arranging collection at the forest finish until access and a method of communicating changed plans are confirmed.
By car
The published road approach to Zarechye passes through Treskovo and Oymur. Check winter passage on the village side, an unloading place and collection arrangements beforehand. A forest road towards the range does not establish ordinary-car access to mountain camps or the precise finish. Prepare an independent return to your agreed roadside meeting place; the summit section has no established vehicle passage.
Parking
Parking is unconfirmed. Agree lawful vehicle storage in Zarechye with a receiving party. A forest departure, junction or former camping place does not establish prepared parking or winter vehicle access. Include an independent return to the parked vehicle.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски Present continuity and safe connections between separate sections of the full route are unconfirmed. Before departure, establish the complete authorised passage with someone who knows the terrain, and prepare the descent, return to Zarechye and emergency exits independently. Avoid planning the full expedition without this work; choose a separately agreed section or postpone departure if confirmation is unavailable. Ski difficulty comes from dwarf pine, uneven slopes and making a way through natural terrain rather than a presumed unusually long distance. The earlier group sought easier ground on a slope before returning to the ridge. That experience does not guarantee an open passage today. Avoid unexamined steep-slope detours; uncertain connections need an independent decision. Exposed mountain ground brings poor visibility, wind, snow concealed between stones and slippery surfaces. Assess snow stability on the selected slope independently. Observe old triangulation structures from ground level. Prepare camping, fuel, water, communication and injury procedures. Check current territorial restrictions and the process for notifying rescue services before travelling.

How much time to allow

The complete duration and a currently suitable daily plan for this multi-day version are unestablished. Days spent on the earlier ski expedition do not establish your own schedule. Calculate delivery, forest-road travel, difficult ridge sections, the summit outing, descent, overnight arrangements and an independent return to roadside collection separately. Plan only after clarifying complete passage. Allow reserves for weather, safe route decisions, group recovery and early completion. Historic overnight locations do not promise huts, prepared pitches or supplies.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
The ski purpose requires suitable stable snow, a settled forecast and verified passage on the chosen ridge side. A historical January outing confirms the journey’s winter character without establishing safe dates for another group. Assess dwarf pine, snow between stones and descent conditions before travelling. Strong wind, poor visibility, wet snow or worsening weather can require cancellation of the mountain outing. A summer walking repeat is independently unprepared.
