Route description

Two large cities frame this journey, with Polesye unfolding between them. From Gomel, the road leads towards the Dnieper and Rechitsa, then through Kalinkovichi to Mozyr. Slow down here: approach Palesskaya Veda, continue towards the reconstructed Mozyr Castle and discover the town above the Pripyat. This is the first substantial historical stop on the westward journey. Turov introduces an older chapter, passing its cathedral and the Ancient Turov archaeological complex. The Stviga, David-Gorodok with its Prince David monument, and the Horyn follow. After Stolin, a separate excursion heads towards the Olmany wetlands before the journey returns to town life in Pinsk. The woodland branch needs its own preparation and access arrangements. West of Pinsk, the emphasis changes again: Merchitsy, the literary memorials of Rudka and Porechye, Motol and Dostoevo. In Vorotsevichi, allow time for the Napoleon Orda gallery, whose subject helps bring old estates and towns into focus. Through Drogichin and Zakozel, the road continues towards Brest. Leave room between overnight stops for museums, pauses beside the rivers and the local stories that give this journey its character.

Route at a glance

Главное за минуту
Explore Polesye through successive stories: Mozyr above the Pripyat, ancient Turov, a town on the Horyn, the Olmany woods and places associated with regional poets and artists. The change from large river towns to the small settlements between Pinsk and Drogichin is particularly rewarding.

Nearby

Lake Bolshoye Zasominoye lies off the woodland continuation: arrange a separate approach along the nature trail with the conservation authority. In Pinsk, make an additional approach to the former Jesuit college, home to the Museum of Belarusian Polesye. Motol’s Folk Art Museum, the Napoleon Orda museum exhibitions and the estate house require separate visits and admission checks. Do not plan the former Yanishchyts school museum in Porechye as an operating exhibition.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
The beginning is beside Gomel’s regional railway terminal and the finish beside Brest’s regional terminal. These are different railway hubs: arrange arrival and departure separately, checking the correct terminal, schedules and bicycle carriage. Identify a suitable service beforehand for any early return from an intermediate town; carriage of a bicycle on every bus has not been confirmed.
By car
Use the Gomel station district as the arrival reference and the Brest station district for collection. Follow current signs for drop-off and pick-up. Arrange support at agreed places in settlements. Vehicle access to the Olmany woodland branch and protected areas requires separate checking.
Parking
Present parking has not been confirmed. Arrange long-term storage in Gomel or Brest, allowing for your return from the other city. A station forecourt does not itself establish permission to leave a car throughout the journey.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 56 м.
SurfaceAsphalt 58%, Compacted dirt 6%, Paving stones 2%, Unknown 31%.
Риски Lawful complete passage today has not been confirmed. Between Osipovichi and Novoselki, the course reaches a floating bridge marked as abandoned with restricted access. Confirm an operating crossing or a lawful alternative before travel; a seasonal map annotation is not proof that it opens. The initial Olmany boardwalk has a recorded cycling restriction. Establish separately whether walking with a bicycle is allowed; the woodland continuation differs from the usual lake walk. Check access to the affected parts of Pripyatsky National Park, the Olmany wetlands and Tyrvovichi, together with required border-zone documents. No national border is crossed. Service connections near towns, station areas and the western rural section need separate checks. The Mozyr Castle approach follows museum rules. Extended road sections, traffic and varying surfaces call for independent touring experience and spare time.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 2 d 21 h
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
A day-by-day plan for the multi-day outing is not established. The original author's seven-day suggestion is not a verified itinerary: no accommodation and supply schedule is established. Divide the journey into stages after resolving the river crossing and woodland excursion, confirm overnight stays and allow time for museums. Avoid leaving a difficult woodland or river section until the end of daylight.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose settled, snow-free and ice-free conditions for the road journey. Check Olmany woodland and boardwalk conditions, water levels and crossing operation for your dates. Spring flooding and prolonged rain can change individual connections; in summer, allow for heat and drinking-water supplies. A winter annotation for an old bridge does not make winter suitable for the whole outing.
