Route description

The selected direction descends from upper Adyl-Su to Elbrus village. Rocky mountain-valley ground dominates the beginning; lower down, woodland and the road connecting mountaineering bases with the Baksan valley return. Pause at Shkhelda’s outside approach to consider the postwar history of Caucasus mountaineering and the generations trained here. Continue downhill to the village side. The author intended a mountain-bike passage, although upper stones and the water crossing may require pushing. Prepared vehicle delivery to the upper start is unconfirmed. The ordinary Bashkara Lake walk from Dzhantugan has a different plan; the lake itself is not a confirmed stop on this descent.

Route suitability

Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No data By bike - Partially With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data The upper start requires a separate permitted approach; direct delivery is unconfirmed. Stony ground, water and descending require mountain experience. Lower roads suit the intended bicycle format, but pushing may be necessary higher up and complete cycling permission needs separate confirmation. It is unsuitable for a children’s leisure walk or stroller. Dog rules and continuous reception are unconfirmed.

Nearby

Bashkara and Lapa Lakes require an independently checked outing from Dzhantugan. Shkhelda Glacier lies on another mountain branch outside this descent. Museum admission, training or an overnight stay at Shkhelda camp require separate arrangements with the operator.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски The author warns of loose rock and a river crossing. Check water and the permitted crossing before departure; do not enter a strong stream to complete the ride. Control the bicycle on upper descending ground or push wherever grip is insufficient. Arrange required documents for the upper border area beforehand; a permit does not establish safety.

How much time to allow

Расчётное время в пути 52 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Time for the route | Unestablished With stops | Unestablished Complete descending duration is unconfirmed and depends on the upper approach, ground, crossing and method of travel. The resort’s five-hour plan describes a different Dzhantugan–Bashkara return walk. Include arrival at the upper start and departure from Elbrus village separately in the chosen day.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose snow-free conditions, dry ground and settled weather for an ordinary descent. Recheck water and stony ground after rain. Early autumn ice is possible; lower-road availability does not establish a safe complete winter passage.
