Route description

The Tegermetch leads from a side valley towards the Isfayram-Say. Here the river shapes the journey: the path follows a bank, then climbs away from the water to skirt confined parts of the gorge. A first-hand description records steep rock walls and places where the flow presses against the cliffs. Enjoying this gorge starts with careful preparation. Ask a local guide about bridges, the path and river levels before setting out. When the corridor can be passed safely, its bends and eventual meeting with the larger Isfayram-Say valley give the journey a satisfying sense of arrival.

Route suitability

Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No data By bike - No data With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data This gorge section, with potential fords and constricted river margins, requires an experienced adult group. It is unsuitable for a family outing. Dog and bicycle access have not been separately verified.

Nearby

Reaching the Isfayram-Say does not establish permission to continue through protected land. Discuss the permitted itinerary with reserve staff. Dastar-Ata and the upper Tegermetch need their own time and water-condition checks.

Difficult sections and safety

Elevation gain
A 2018 report records fords, tight river margins and a slope bypass along this corridor. That describes the terrain, rather than proving it is passable today. Check bridges and water levels. Avoid entering a forceful river or improvising a bypass along narrow rock ledges.

How much time to allow

Set aside a full day, roughly 6–8 hours in checked conditions, with reserve time for stops and detours. High water may prevent the crossing altogether. The approach to the upper beginning takes additional time.

Best time to go

Summer or early autumn when river levels and crossings have been checked. Hot weather increases meltwater upstream, while rain can change conditions quickly. Choose the day using local river advice as well as the forecast.

What to bring

Footwear for rocky paths and separate shoes for approved safe water crossings.
Poles, waterproof bags, drinking water and food reserves.
An offline map, a warm layer and emergency equipment; an experienced leader must assess any ford on site.
